Large Contemporary Family Garden, Finchley

Brief: To transform the long monotonous garden into a space that complemented the stylishly converted house.

Clients Wish List: Comfortable area for outdoor dining, water feature and space for the trampoline! Planting where possible to include hot colours.

Solution: New fencing set off with blocks of yew hedge. Large shed moved from the top of the house to the bottom of the garden to make way for a covered BBQ area. Enlarge the patio, but broke the area up by mixing paving and decking into an attractive layout. The whole look set off by the rill of water, which had the effect of separating adults’ from kids’ play areas without impeding the view. A decked walkway across the water affords access to the main garden.
Shallow steps half way down the garden made use of the change of level helping break up the area in an attractive and contemporary fashion.

Planting: Helenium, Hemerocallis, Geum, Salvia, Verbena bonariensis held together with swaying grasses.
On the shady border, architectural foliage of Hostas, Ferns, Euphorbia mellifera,Trachycarpus and Bamboo.
