Client Wish List: To provide a harmonious link with the decked patio that the client had inherited. Solution: Paint the fence (it had been painted a depressing green)! I then decided on small, screeded, painted walls to break up without blocking the space, to create an illusion of width. And to use architectural plants, that would thrive in the shade but at the same time reflect the colour and feel of the transformed plot. Planting: White Wisteria, Fatsia japonica, Hostas, Ferns, Narrow Cupressus and lots of Alliums.
